Merry Christmas!

Today in 202 was pretty magical! The kids began their morning by discovering what goodies were in their stockings! Then we had our secret Santa gift exchange! The kids faces were glowing with excitement! After that, they opened gifts from me & then I opened gifts. Thank you for your kindness & thinking of me this Christmas! It means the world to me!

Don't forget to read for AR & complete your winter break packet!!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Love,

The kids worked through coding tasks for Angry Bird, Plants vs Zombies, Madagascar, Flappy Bird & Frozen. Each task built on the one prior & got a little harder!

Published!

A few students in 202 were given the opportunity to write thank-yous & say what they like best about our school improvements. Unfortunately, not every one could be used. I was excited to see Austin's letter published! Great job, Austin!!

November 17th, 2014

Tommorow is a two hour delay! Eat breakfast at home because breakfast will not be served tomorrow morning.  The school will not be open to students until 10:00 am! Today we watched a video about volunteer firefighters because the story this week will be learning about the history of firefighting. Today in library, a small group of kids got out the same books, and Mary got a copy for Ms. Lewis, so a new recess book club has began!  We are reading "The Stupendous Dodgeball Fiasco".  I hope today was a great day for everyone!

Hello!  Today I sent home the 'Disguise a Turkey' Project.  As a family, it is your task to disguise the turkey that was sent home.  The turkey can be any thing you want it to be -- a famous singer, a sports star, an animal, a favorite character in a book, an actor, etc.  The possibilities are endless!  Be creative!  Your child then needs to write a paper on who their turkey is and why they should be spared this Thanksgiving!  If you have any questions, let me know!

November 14th, 2014

Hello, Team Lewis!

We had another busy day in 202!  We started our day off with our Spelling test (did you know that raspberries had a 'p' in it?!).  Then we went to gym -- we earned another sticker!  We are in first place for the entire school for good behavior & good sportsmanship!  (So proud of Team Lewis!)  Then we had our English quiz & Reading test.  Our class went to lunch, while Tanner & Ms. Lewis got to go out to lunch with Chief Kennedy & Mrs. Hudson!  Tanner was our October Hudson Hero & won the raffle for lunch.  Tanner chose to go to Bob's Diner in Carnegie!  Lunch was delicious!  Owner, Bob Marshall, treated Tanner like a princess!  She got a Bob's mug for hot chocolate & a Bob's pen.  Our waitress gave her a Sarris chocolate bar!  Talk about royal treatment!  The afternoon started with DEAR time.  We had a lot of students level up on Rocket Math today, too!  So awesome!  We began Unit 6 in Math -- Dividing by 1-divisor.  Mastering the basic multiplication facts is extremely important!  Please keep practicing them!

The only homework this weekend is to read for AR!  Many students in 202 are well on their way to meeting their 10 point goal!

Report cards come home MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17th!  Be sure to review your child's report card & read the comment sheet.  Please sign and return the comment sheet and the envelope.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me promptly!  Together we can!

Thanks!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Lewis

Today was exciting because we started class dojo, an interactive online class point system.  You can earn points for participating, being on task, and other good things.  You can lose points for bullying, not being prepared, arguing, and making other poor choices.  There is a parent log in option; Ms. Lewis will be sending home information soon about how to log in! November 6, 2014

Dear Families of 202,

Hello!  We are struggling with double digit multiplication.  We are not consistently doing the problems correctly.  Please, please, please be sure you are working on this as well as basic multiplication facts.  We are doing Rocket Math in school, as well as Reflex Math, and Sumdog, which are all great help, but the facts really need practiced at home.  Reflex Math & Sumdog can be used at home.  Flash cards are an awesome idea, and can be used for 10-15 minutes a day.  I sent home a packet of flash cards, and the Dollar Tree also has them for $1.  There are also free apps available to practice the facts.  Mastery of the facts will help immensely with all future math skills.

Today marked the end of the first nine weeks.  I am not sure where the time has gone!  Students may begin taking AR tests for the second nine weeks beginning tomorrow, Friday, November 7th.  They need 10 points for the second nine weeks!  I am happy to say 86% of our class earned all of their AR points!  Way to go!  Keep up the EXCELLENT work!!!

Report cards will be sent home on November 17th.  Please keep an eye out for them.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  There will be a comment sheet, in addition to the report card.  Please sign and return the comment sheet with the envelope.

Thank you for all you do!

Ms. Lewis

October 30th

Guess what we did today?!

We had an assembly for Red Ribbon Week.  Carnegie Police Officer, Sargent Lint shared with us a presentation about drugs, alcohol, and smoking. Carnegie Police Officer Quatro also took time out of his day to visit us.  We got to pet Dax. his police dog.  Dax is 8 years old and has been with Officer Quatro since he was a year old.  Dax lives with Officer Quatro, and will remain with him after he retires.  Officer Quatro will know when it's time for Dax to retire, but he wishes he could last another 20 years!! We had lots of fun.

We did estimating products in math!  202 really rocked at that!

We had a science quiz, too.  It was about building a terrarium.

Some kids were lucky enough to go to the garden with Ms. Martys today for STEAM during recess & they discovered 11 carrots still in the ground!!

Get ready for Halloween!

October 23rd

Hello, 202!

Today wrapped up our second round of benchmark testing. I'm proud of our kids! They really took their time and tried their best! The results may be less than what they hoped for, but they're being assessed on 4th grade curriculum. We are almost one nine weeks in & have a lot more to learn & time to show awesome academic growth!

Journals were graded & returned today to allow for 3 extra days to finish next weeks required 5. I thought with pumpkin carving & last minute Halloween preparations, a few extra days would help!

It's been enjoyable reading the weekly journals! A few reminders:

* each journal entry must be at least 1 paragraph, which is at least 5 sentences!

* mark which journal you want graded on using the rubric. If you fail to choose one, I will grade the last journal due for the week.

* handwriting is getting sloppy & sometimes hard to read. Take your time!! If I can't read it, how can it earn points??

AR points are due on November 6th! I am elated to be able to say 77% of the class has already earned their required 10 points & have exceeded that amount!! Use this long weekend to catch up on your AR points, or to be proactive so you're ready to take a test on November 7th for the 2nd nine weeks!!!

Enjoy your 3 day weekend!!

-- Ms. Lewis

Pens Practice

Today, the 4th, 5th & 6th graders went on a field trip to the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Consol Energy Center. We sat in the section 102, which is in the First Niagra Club! It was cool being on center ice! We got to watch the Pens practice. They played music, which had almost all of the 8,000 kids there dancing in their seats! Some of us even made it on the jumbotron! It was a lot of fun! Thank you to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation for inviting us! (See photos below)
